      Tightly coiled, thick and roughly ridged snailshell, with the shell mottled black and cream; the inner surface is smooth and white, with a toothed shelf protecting the entrance.

      This is one of the rarest of several species of Nerita found along the shores of singapore. Abundant in the 1960s, populations have declined drmatically with changes in habitat. The remaining mangroves that are protected can form a secure home for this species.
