      Scientific Interest & Potential Value :
      The shell is used in the manufacture of buttons and jewellery, sold as a curio, and taken by shell collectors. The flesh is sometimes used as food.
      Conservation Notes :
      Abundant during the 1960s but now seldom seen. Some sites need to be designated as nature areas or marine protected areas, and legislation to protect marine life from over-collecting needs to be instituted.
