  • Description
    • Description :
      One of the largest species of red dragonflies. Male red from head to tail, including eyes. Distinctive dark line along the dorsum of the abdomen. Female light brown in colour. Wing base has a brownish yellow hyaline patch, moderately extensive in the hindwing. Immature male is like female.

    • Ecological Notes :
      Sun-loving species. Male guards his territory by perching on the tip of an emergent plant and chases off other dragonflies of the same species of other species. Seen in disturbed open habitats and grassy water bodies with still water.
