  • Description
    • Description :
      The male of this species has a red bill with brown mandible, a greyish-blue head, blackish upper-back (mantle), dark purple lower backs and upper tails, and greenish wings. Its breast is mostly olive green, sometimes tinged with blue.  The less colourful females have a brown bill, a brown head, blue back, and is mostly green on its undersides. The juvenile of both sexes look similar to females, but with a green crown which extends to the side of its head.

    • Ecological Notes :
      Breeds in May to June, and nests in natural tree holes high above the ground. In Singapore, breeding of this species has not been reported.

      In Singapore, restricted to the Central Nature Reserves. Occurs in South Myanmar, Peninsular Thailand and Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo.
