      Growth Form: Large-sized shrub, able to grow up to 5 m tall.
      Foliage: Leaves simple and opposite arrangement, densely white stellate tomentose, elliptic to broadly elliptic or ovate in shape, measuring about 10 - 25 cm long and 5 - 15 cm wide.
      Stems: Bark is smooth and grey.
      Flowers: Purple flowers borne in an inflorescence, branched cymes in axillary positions.
      Fruits: Fruit is a black globose drupe and contains 3 - 4 seeds.
      Etymology :
      The genus Callicarpa is derived from the Greek words 'kalli' meaning beautiful and 'karpos' meaning fruit. Species tomentosa means thickly matted with hairs.
